CENTRAL REGION DIRECTOR (SYRACUSE-BASED)

Opening for Central New York Regional Director in the office of U.S. Senator Charles Schumer

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer’s office has an opening for a Regional Director for the Central New York Region of New York. The job is based in the Syracuse Federal Building and oversees a coverage area that includes ten counties stretching across Central New York, including the cities of Syracuse, Oswego, Cortland, Auburn, Utica, Rome and Watertown.

The position requires the candidate to have a firm understanding of local issues impacting this geographic region and the local stakeholders and elected officials who make decisions. The position requires the candidate to immerse themselves within various local economic development, planning and stakeholder groups. They should be well versed on local, state and federal topics of interest impacting the Central and Northern New York region of the state. The candidate should also have the ability to both plan and execute official events on behalf of the Senator. Finally, the candidate should be prepared to work with DC and New York City staff handling an array of legislative and casework portfolios. The candidate will present an ability to cooperate with these staff members to ensure policies or legislative endeavors align with the interests of Central and Northern New York.

A modicum of travel is required and the candidate will work some weekends.  A valid license is required, as is an undergraduate degree from an accredited university. This position is not entry level.

DEPUTY SCHEDULER (NYC BASED)

Opening for Deputy State Scheduler in the office of U.S. Senator Charles Schumer

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer’s office has an opening for Deputy State Scheduler. The job is based in Midtown Manhattan and assists the Director of Scheduling with maintaining the Senator’s daily and long-term schedules for New York. The position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual. Duties involve direct communication with other elected officials’ offices, outreach to community leaders, and researching events on a weekly basis for the Senator to attend.  Strong computer knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills are required, as is an undergraduate degree from an accredited university.

Big Picture Responsibilities:  

The ASDC Executive Director is responsible for helping build strong state parties in order to elect Democrats from the State House to the White House.  The ASDC Executive Director supports and educates State Party Chairs, Vice Chairs, Executive Directors and their staff on how to build and execute effective State Party operations and high level campaign activities.  This position works closely with the Executive Committee of the ASDC and reports to the ASDC President and CEO of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • The Executive Director will direct the budgeting and financial management, personnel supervision, and coordination of efforts cross departmentally.
  • The Executive Director will oversee the execution of four ASDC full membership meetings a year as well as corresponding trainings.
  • Provides advice and guidance to optimize the effectiveness of the ASDC and all other aspects of association operations.
  • The Executive Director will also work in to assist state parties with Democratic National Convention questions and serve as a planning and preparation liaison with all Democratic State Parties.
  • Execution of special projects as needed.

About You:

  • The ideal candidate will be a team player, energetic, and a self-starter who possesses sound organizational skills, pays strict attention to detail, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  •    Experience working on political campaigns and, preferably, for a Party organization or progressive cause
  •    Significant amount of travel and strong technical, writing, staff management, interpersonal communication and public speaking skills
  • Must possess excellent oral/written communication skills; presentation skills.
  • Strong interest and experience in politics, party building and/key Democratic Party issues.
  • Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to produce astute political judgments.
  • Demonstrated competency in handling several tasks, simultaneously.

Big Picture Responsibilities:  

The Democratic National Committee is looking to hire a Digital Production Assistant to help run one of the largest and most active digital programs in the country. In this position, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining beautiful webpages and elegant user experiences for Democrats across the country, getting written communications from Democratic leaders — up to and including President Obama, Vice President Biden, and the First Lady — to millions of Democratic supporters, and you’ll be involved in the optimization and analytic operations of the Democratic Party.

This is an entry-level position, but we’re looking for someone who wants to be the next Democratic digital star, and if you are willing to learn and work really long hours, we will give you the opportunity to become that. This position reports to the Director of Email, but will work with others in the Technology and Digital Departments to design and develop email and web properties.

Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Being on point for setting up and sending emails from Democratic leaders to one of the largest supporter lists in politics.
  • Producing clean, professional user experiences on tight timelines, and with coordination across our engineering team and non-technical departments.
  • Keeping code clean, well-documented and ensuring performance across browsers.
  • Managing a variety of projects and portfolios from start to finish.
  • Assisting in the management of an email calendar, and ensuring complicated initiatives come together.
  • Analyzing and reporting the results of emails campaigns.

Big Picture Responsibilities:  

The Deputy Director of Marketing will work closely with the Director of Marketing, the Marketing team, and DNC staff to execute an effective direct marketing program targeted at the DNC’s grassroots donors.

Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for all activities related to conceptualizing and implementing direct marketing strategy and achieving direct marketing targets.
  • Responsible for direct marketing research and planning.
  • Responsible for directing and managing the day-to-day activities of the direct marketing staff.
  • Provides support in the area of direct marketing strategy and management.
  • Helps develop and implement the annual direct marketing plan and the strategies, tactics and resources necessary to achieve established goals. Able to assess the DNC’s direct marketing needs.
  • Meet regularly with the Director of Marketing to establish direction and priorities, and goals and targeted objectives which includes accountability. Participate in strategic planning and standard setting for the Marketing department.
  • Work with Director of Marketing to develop direct marketing and promotional materials in adherence to the DNC standards and guidelines.

 Big Picture Responsibilities:  

The Executive Assistant to the CEO is primarily responsible for serving as the point person and is the primary liaison between DNC staff and the CEO’s Office. The Executive Assistant is responsible for all logistics, special and miscellaneous projects. The Executive Assistant must be professional, a self-starter, detailed oriented, meticulous, well organized, highly motivated, and have good writing skills.

Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with the DNC departments and external organizations to coordinate and facilitate briefings.
  • Responsible for the administrative management of the CEO’s office.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Process payment of invoices for certain services and vendors.
  • Work with outside groups such as the White House and other external parties.
  • Serve as liaison between staff and the CEO, as appropriate.

Big Picture Responsibilities:

The Community Engagement Desk(s) will work closely with the Director of Community Engagement, the Community Engagement team as well as DNC staff to build and implement effective outreach to Native Americans and other various constituencies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducts stakeholder analysis, community outreach and engagement, key message development, communication planning and execution, and logistical coordination for delivery and deployment of outreach efforts.
  • Tracks planning, execution, community outreach and engagement and impact of multiple complex change initiatives.
  • Cultivates relationships with key constituencies and facilitates involvement as it relates to Committee objectives.
  • Develop and write comprehensive community engagement strategy plans for implementation.
  • Analyzing local political trends, performing necessary research and preparing background materials and documents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Community Engagement.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience).
  • Well-honed engagement and outreach skills, including at least three (3) years of campaign, organizational and/or equivalent experiences, with proven ability to handle multiple tasks successfully
  • An advanced understanding of and demonstrated experience working with progressive leaders and groups.
  • Proven effectiveness to clearly communicate what is expected of key stakeholders at all levels.

Big Picture Responsibilities:   

The Video Research Associate is responsible for assisting the video and research team with ongoing media monitoring and rapid response requests. They have a responsibility to perform in the following areas:

  • Possess a strong knowledge of current events including GOP leadership, opposition and right-wing activity, U.S. Congress, and activity around the upcoming campaign cycles
  • Quickly view, analyze and format news clips and raw video content
  • Monitor and extract key points from local and national news and other multimedia sources.
  • Compile press clips and media coverage reports
  • Some late nights and off hour work will be required
  • Light video editing as needed, but previous experience editing video is not required
  • Perform additional specific research responsibilities, as directed

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic understanding of video files and formats
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Cunning attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to take direction, ask questions and quickly learn new tasks and databases
  • Self-motivated with the ability to meet time sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and balance long-term needs and short-term tasks.
  • Ability to keep up with the 24 hour news cycle and familiarity with cable news
  • Experience with media monitoring services is a plus
